XMFC/Remember, Remember the Fifth of November
It comes to him suddenly, late at night, as he watches Charles sleeping: he wants to marry this man.
At first, the feeling is strange, alien - and absurd. He and Charles are living in sin - a sin that, were they to be discovered, would result in hard labour or lengthy imprisonment. Not that Erik would ever let that happen - he would die before he would let them take Charles.
He's never been a man to think of marriage, commitment. Not until Charles. Not until they adopted their son. But now he can't envisage his life without him and, while he cannot stand before a rabbi and declare it, he can make sure Charles knows exactly how he feels.
Despite the children's complete lack of understanding of the tradition, Erik starts the arrangements for a Bonfire Night celebration - and starts making plans of his own for the big night.
On November 5th, Erik wakes and feels sick. He has never felt so anxious. Today is the day.
